Following my May 2022 graduation from the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Textiles, Fashion Merchandising and Design with an Art minor, I would like to further my knowledge of Technical Design and Product Development.
Growing up in a family of artists sparked a lifelong passion for creativity and self expression for me. I am extremely curious about accessible design and the ways the apparel industry can adjust to celebrate and include marginalized groups, specifically those with disabilities and the LGBTQ+ community. After learning about the hardships these groups face while shopping and getting dressed everyday, I would like to challenge the way the we think about apparel. For the average person, throwing on an outfit for work or school is a no brainer. Pants, shirt, shoes. But for those with physical disabilities, getting dressed poses a much bigger challenge - apparel is rarely designed for those in wheelchairs and mobility aids, sensory-sensitive folks, or people who struggle with joint pain and limited motor skills. This doesn’t have to be the case. We can design for everyone.
